DILLON AND THE PIRATES OF XONIRA is a novel that’s a semi-sequel to DILLON AND THE LEGEND OF THE GOLDEN BELL that actually wasn’t intended to be a novel. It began as an idea for a 10 page comic book story. Since I have zero ability and confidence in being able to write a comic book story, I wrote a short story with the intention of passing it along to another writer who knows what he’s doing when it comes to writing a comic book script.
That project fell through and by that time I had time to sit around and think some more about the characters and the story. I always knew it was going to be just part of a larger story but I didn’t intend on starting it right away. Dillon and the rest of the characters were kicking at the walls, demanding that I get to work on on the rest of the story, so I did.
Here’s the basic plot: While on vacation, Dillon is contacted by the beautiful and seductive Toi Lahayne, an operative of The Braithwaite Group. They’ve uncovered information that Dillon’s old friend, Lord Murphy C’jai is involved with the renewed pirate activity on Xonira. Dillon assembles a motley crew of modern day pirates to return to the island kingdom of Xonira and finds that once more that island kingdom is beleaguered by nefarious threats from both within and without.
Toi Lahyane and The Braithwaite Group are characters I’ve been wanting to introduce for a time now but never could find the right story until PIRATES OF XONIRA. And it was also the right story to bring in a couple of characters who have proven to be favorites with a lot of readers:
This is Allie Pierri and her son Shon. They’re a French mother-and-son team of mercenaries. Allie’s a descendant of a King’s Musketeer (and not the one you’re thinking of) and her family has faithfully served France for generations. Allie’s teaching her son the business. She won’t let him shoot anybody until he’s eighteen which he thinks is a drag but he does get to beat up on people with his nunchucks.
And while you can purchase DILLON AND THE PIRATES OF XONIRA as a stand alone novel, it’s also part of the DILLON ANNUAL COLLECTION 2018 and I would recommend you get that as you also get a whole buncha other great Dillon adventures as well. Hey, either way I’m getting your ducats.
